How these home plans are designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR Rating: Energy-efficient details and specifications are chosen to meet the rigorous ENERGY STAR for New Homes guidelines set by EPA. After review by a third party HERS inspector, “ENERGY STAR Qualified New Home” will be specified on the home plans. To qualify, a plan is verified to include energy-saving features and methods that will result in a home which is at LEAST 20-30 percent more energy efficient than a standard home built to current code. The field plan must meet EPA verification requirements to earn the ENERGY STAR qualified home label. The builder will need to make sure he/she follows the home plan's ENERGY STAR construction spec's and works with the assigned Home Energy Rater, who will conduct the on-site inspection and testing to verify that your home qualifies. You may then Affix the ENERGY STAR label on your qualifying home. Once the building is built and operating for at least one year, it may qualify to receive the ENERGY STAR plaque- you will be guided through these final steps as a contract courtesy.
